How to Convert PDF to JPG or PNG (Free, High Quality)

3 min readUpdated 5 October 2026

To convert a PDF to JPG, open PDF to Image, drop in your PDF, choose JPG and a resolution, and press Convert to JPG. Every page becomes its own image, ready to download one at a time or all together as a ZIP.

Choose PNG instead for crisp text and diagrams, and convert all pages or only the ones you need. It works in any browser on a computer or phone, and the pages are rendered on your own device — the PDF is never uploaded.

Step by step

JPG or PNG — which should you choose?

JPG gives much smaller files and is right for most uses: sharing a page on LINE or social media, adding it to a presentation, or uploading it to a website. A quality of 80–90% looks practically identical to the page.

PNG is lossless, so text, lines and diagrams stay perfectly crisp — but the files are bigger. Pick it for pages with small print, charts or line drawings, or when you'll edit the image afterwards.

Which resolution (DPI) do you need?

DPI decides how many pixels each page gets. Higher means sharper and bigger files:

  • 72 DPI — small previews and thumbnails. Fine for a quick look, but text gets fuzzy when you zoom in.
  • 150 DPI — the default and the best all-rounder: clear on screens and phones, sensible file sizes. An A4 page comes out around 1240 × 1754 pixels.
  • 300 DPI — the usual choice for printing or when you need to zoom into fine detail. An A4 page comes out around 2480 × 3508 pixels.

Tip: Very large pages, such as posters or plans, are capped at about 16 megapixels per image to keep browsers stable, so they may come out slightly smaller than the chosen DPI.

Saving the images on iPhone and Android

On a phone, open the tool in Safari or Chrome and pick your PDF from Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Downloads. Downloaded images go to your Downloads folder — on iPhone that's Files › Downloads.

To get an image into the iPhone Photos app, open it in Files, tap Share and choose “Save Image”. If your phone runs out of memory on a long document, choose 150 DPI instead of 300, or convert fewer pages at a time.
