- When is the number 1 read as เอ็ด?
- When 1 is in the units place and there are other digits before it: 11 is สิบเอ็ด, 101 is หนึ่งร้อยเอ็ด, 1,000,001 is หนึ่งล้านเอ็ด. On its own, 1 is หนึ่ง, and 10 is just สิบ.
- When does it end with ถ้วน?
- ถ้วน means “exactly”: it's added when there are no satang, so 500 is ห้าร้อยบาทถ้วน. With satang the text ends in สตางค์ instead, e.g. 500.25 is ห้าร้อยบาทยี่สิบห้าสตางค์.
- How are amounts over a million written?
- Thai counts in groups of six digits, so ล้าน repeats: 21,000,000 is ยี่สิบเอ็ดล้าน, and 1,000,000,000,000 is หนึ่งล้านล้าน.
- How do I do this in Excel or Google Sheets?
- Excel has =BAHTTEXT(A1). Google Sheets has no built-in BAHTTEXT, so you can paste a column into List mode here and copy the results back as a table.
- What happens to more than 2 decimal places?
- Amounts are rounded to the nearest satang first, half up: 10.005 becomes สิบบาทหนึ่งสตางค์.
