How to Merge PDF Files (Free, No Upload)
3 min readUpdated 5 October 2026
To merge PDF files, open Merge PDF, drop in your files, drag them into the order you want and press Merge PDF. You get one combined PDF to download a few seconds later.
It works in any modern browser, so the same steps apply on a Windows laptop, a Mac, an iPhone or an Android phone. Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded: the merging happens on your own device, which also makes it fast for big files.
Step by step
- 1Open Merge PDFGo to the Merge PDF tool. There is no account or download — it is ready straight away.
- 2Add your PDFsDrop two or more PDF files onto the page, or click to pick them. You can add more at any time with “Add more PDFs”.
- 3Put them in orderDrag the files into the order you want, or use Sort by name if your files are numbered. Remove any you added by mistake.
- 4MergePress Merge PDF (or Ctrl/⌘ + Enter). The pages are joined in exactly the order shown.
- 5Download or keep goingDownload the combined PDF, or use Send to… to compress or sign it without downloading it first.
Merging PDFs on iPhone, iPad and Android
On a phone, open the tool in Safari or Chrome and tap the drop area to choose files. On iPhone you can pick PDFs from the Files app, iCloud Drive or Google Drive; on Android, from Downloads or Drive.
When the merge finishes, tap Download. On iPhone the file goes to Files › Downloads; on Android it goes to your Downloads folder, ready to share on LINE or email.
Tip: Install TechSolve Tools as an app from your browser menu and it opens like a native app — handy if you merge documents often.
How to get the page order right
The final document follows the order of the list, top to bottom. If your files are named like “01-cover.pdf”, “02-contract.pdf”, Sort by name puts them in order in one click.
Need to change the order of pages inside a file, or delete a page before merging? Use Organize PDF first, then merge the result.
What to do after merging
A merged PDF is often too big for email or chat. These tools pick up where merging stops:
- Compress PDF — shrink it to fit email limits such as Gmail's 25 MB.
- Sign PDF — add your signature and the date.
- Stamp PDF — add page numbers or a “Confidential” watermark.
- Split PDF — take a few pages back out into their own file.
If a file won't merge
If merging fails, one of the files is usually damaged or password-protected. Open each file on its own to find the culprit; for a protected PDF, open it with its password, print it to a new PDF (“Save as PDF”), then merge that copy.
Very large files (hundreds of scanned pages) depend on your device's memory. On an older laptop, merge in two or three batches and then merge the results.
Questions people ask
- Is it safe to merge PDFs online?
- With this tool, yes: the files are merged inside your browser and never uploaded to a server, so contracts, payslips and ID scans stay on your device.
- Is there a limit on files or size?
- There is no fixed limit on the number of files. Very large documents depend on your device's memory; most phones and laptops handle hundreds of pages comfortably.
- Does merging reduce the quality?
- No. The pages are copied as they are, so text stays sharp and searchable and images keep their original quality.
- Can I merge PDFs and images together?
- Turn the images into a PDF first with Image to PDF, then merge that PDF with your other files.
