How to Trim a Video Online (Free, No Watermark)
4 min readUpdated 5 October 2026
To trim a video, open Video Trimmer, choose your video and drag the two handles on the timeline to the part you want to keep. Press Trim & export, then Download the new clip.
It is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark. It runs in the browser on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, and Fast trim keeps the original quality exactly.
Step by step
- 1Open your videoDrop a video onto the tool or tap to choose one — MP4, MOV and WebM all work. No video handy? Press Try a sample.
- 2Mark the part to keepDrag the start and end handles on the timeline, or type exact times into Start and End (for example 1:05.250). Tap anywhere on the timeline to jump there.
- 3Fine-tune the cutPress Play selection to check it. Step one frame at a time with the arrow buttons, and use the In and Out buttons (or the I and O keys) to set the start or end at the current frame.
- 4Choose how to exportSwitch on Fast trim (no re-encode) for an instant cut in the original quality, or set Sound (Keep or Mute), Resolution, Quality and Format (MP4 or WebM). The estimated file size updates as you go.
- 5Export and downloadPress Trim & export (or Ctrl/⌘ + Enter), watch the result, then press Download. The file keeps your video's name with “-trimmed” added.
Trimming a video to send on LINE or by email
Phone videos are large, and chat apps and email have size limits. Under Quality, choose Small for LINE: it aims for roughly 8 MB per minute and lowers the resolution to 720p if your video is bigger. Mute the sound too if it isn't needed — every bit helps.
Keep an eye on the estimated size before you export. For email, Gmail's attachment limit is 25 MB, so a clip of a minute or two at Small for LINE usually fits comfortably.
Tip: Sending a short funny moment rather than a whole clip? A looping GIF from GIF Maker plays automatically in most chats — just note that GIFs have no sound.
Fast trim or re-encode: which to pick
Fast trim (no re-encode) copies the video as it is, so it finishes almost instantly and the quality is untouched. The catch: it can only cut at a keyframe, so the clip may start a moment earlier than your handle. Resolution, quality and format can't be changed in this mode.
With fast trim off, the selection is encoded again. The cut is exact and you can resize and compress, at the cost of a little time. Most up-to-date browsers do this faster than real time; in a browser that can't, the tool tells you the export will play the clip through in real time, so keep the tab open until it finishes.
Recordings from Screen Recorder open here too, including WebM files. Export with Format set to MP4 to get a file that plays on almost any phone or computer.
Trimming a video on iPhone or Android
Open the tool in Safari or Chrome and tap to choose a video from Photos, Files or your gallery. The timeline handles are made for fingers, and you can also type times into Start and End for a precise cut.
After you tap Download, the clip goes to Files › Downloads on iPhone — open it there and use Share › Save Video to put it in Photos. On Android it lands in your Downloads folder, ready to share on LINE.
If a video won't open or export
Most problems come from formats the browser can't handle. The messages tell you which:
- This browser can't play that video format — common with HEVC (High Efficiency) iPhone videos on some Windows PCs. Try another browser, or set your iPhone to Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible for future videos.
- Fast trim can't copy these streams — switch fast trim off and export again; the video will be re-encoded instead.
- MP4 encoding isn't supported in this browser — the tool uses WebM instead. WebM plays in Chrome, Firefox and VLC; try another browser if you need MP4.
- The clip came out silent — the tool tells you when the browser couldn't encode the sound. Try fast trim, or a different browser.
Questions people ask
- Does the trimmed video have a watermark?
- No. Nothing is added to your video — no logo, no text, no end screen.
- Can I cut out a part from the middle of a video?
- Not in one go. Video Trimmer keeps one continuous section between the start and end handles. To drop a middle part, you'd export the two pieces separately and join them in a video editor.
- Will trimming reduce the quality?
- Fast trim keeps the original quality exactly. A normal export re-encodes the video; High stays close to the original, while Small for LINE trades some sharpness for a much smaller file.
- How do I remove the sound from a video?
- Set Sound to Mute before you export. It works with fast trim too, so you can make a silent copy without losing any quality.
