How to Create a PromptPay QR Code (With Amount)
4 min readUpdated 5 October 2026
To create a PromptPay QR code, open PromptPay QR, choose Mobile, ID / Tax ID or e-Wallet, type your PromptPay number and, if you like, an amount. The QR card appears straight away — download it as a PNG or Print it.
It is free, needs no account and works in any browser on a phone or computer. The QR is a standard Thai QR (EMVCo) that payers scan with their Thai banking app, and it is generated on your own device, so your number is not sent anywhere.
Step by step
- 1Open PromptPay QRGo to the PromptPay QR tool. There is nothing to install or sign up for. Press Try a sample if you want to see a finished card first.
- 2Choose your PromptPay typePick Mobile (10 digits), ID / Tax ID (13 digits) or e-Wallet (15 digits) — whichever is linked to PromptPay at your bank. A green tick shows when the number is valid.
- 3Add an amount (optional)Type an amount in Amount (optional) or tap a quick amount from 20 to 1,000 baht. Leave it empty for an open QR the payer fills in themselves. Up to two decimal places (satang) are allowed.
- 4Put your name on the cardAdd a Name on card (optional), such as your shop name. It is printed on the card above a masked version of your number.
- 5Download, print or savePress PNG to download the card, Print to print it on A4, or the bookmark icon (Save to history) to reuse the same setup later.
Fixed amount or open amount: which to use?
A QR with an amount (the tool labels it “dynamic QR”) fills in the exact price for the payer, so nobody types the wrong number. It is ideal for one order, a bill you are splitting, or a delivery you are collecting payment for.
A QR without an amount (“open amount”) lets the payer type any amount. That is the one to print and stick by the till, on a market stall or on a donation box, because it works for every sale.
Tip: Many shops keep a printed open-amount QR at the counter and make a fixed-amount QR on their phone for online orders.
Mobile number, ID card or e-Wallet?
Use whichever ID is registered with PromptPay at your bank — the QR only works if that number is linked to an account. You can check in your banking app under the PromptPay menu.
For a QR that strangers will see, a mobile number is usually the better choice. The card itself masks your number, but the full number is inside the QR code, and anyone can read it with an ordinary QR scanner. Businesses that registered PromptPay with their 13-digit tax ID can use ID / Tax ID for a company account.
Check your QR before you share it
Before printing a batch, scan the QR with your own banking app or ask a friend to. The app shows the account holder's name and, for a fixed-amount QR, the amount — confirm both are right, then cancel without paying.
The tool also checks your input as you type: it warns if a mobile number does not start with 06, 08 or 09, if a number has the wrong length, or if a 13-digit ID fails its check digit. For the curious, the Payload panel shows the raw EMVCo data and what each field means.
Use your QR with other tools
A PromptPay QR fits neatly into the rest of your paperwork:
- Invoice Maker — send an invoice or receipt, then a QR set to the exact Net payable.
- QR Generator — make a separate QR for your LINE, menu or website link.
- QR Scanner — read a QR from a photo or screenshot to see what it contains.
Questions people ask
- Is it safe to share my PromptPay QR?
- Yes. A PromptPay QR only holds your PromptPay ID and, optionally, an amount. Someone who scans it can pay you, but cannot take money from your account.
- Does a PromptPay QR expire?
- No. The QR made here contains no expiry date, so a printed card keeps working as long as your PromptPay number stays linked to your account.
- Which banking apps can scan it?
- The QR follows the standard Thai QR (EMVCo) format used by Thai banking apps, so customers can scan it from their usual app. Scan it once yourself before you print many copies.
- Why doesn't my name on the card appear in the payer's app?
- The name on the card is printed text only. The payer's app shows the name registered with your bank for that PromptPay number, which is what they should check before paying.
- Can I make a QR for a company?
- Yes, if the company's 13-digit tax ID is registered with PromptPay. Choose ID / Tax ID, enter the number and add the company name on the card.
